WSJ makes beat, editing changes

Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker sent out the following on Friday:

I am pleased to announce the following appointments:

Amol Sharma is taking on an expanded role as media & entertainment editor, picking up oversight of our corporate coverage out of Los Angeles. He will continue to report to Jamie Heller.

Sarah Krouse is now Los Angeles Bureau Chief, leading coverage of Hollywood, the music industry and gambling, reporting to Amol Sharma. Most recently, Sarah was covering Netflix and streaming in New York.

Caitlin Ostroff is now covering cryptocurrencies and crypto companies in New York reporting to Lauren Pollock. Caitlin previously was a markets reporter in London.

Ed Hyatt has taken on a new role as director of Newsroom SEO in New York, from senior SEO editor.

Emil Lendof is returning to his role as a lead photo editor in New York, reporting to Meghan Petersen. Previously, Emil was a talent editor for the Managing Editor’s Office.

Erin Ailworth is now a New York City reporter, reporting to Josh Jamerson. Previously, Erin was a talent editor for the Managing Editor’s Office.

Ian Lovett is now based in Berlin and covering Ukraine as part of the World News team reporting to Deborah Ball. Previously, Ian reported for the U.S. News team from Los Angeles.

Jack Gillum joined the Journal as a political data reporter in Washington, D.C. reporting to Ben Pershing. Previously, Jack was a cybersecurity reporter for Bloomberg News.

Joshua Kirby is now an economics reporter in Barcelona, reporting to Sarah Sloat. Previously, Joshua covered the luxury beat for Dow Jones Newswires.

Julie Steinberg now covers global metals and mining, reporting to Chip Cummins in London. Previously Julie covered large European investors and their bets.

Katy Barnato is now a markets news editor in London, reporting to Alex Frangos. Previously, Katy was a publishing & platform editor.

Leo Lord-Jones has joined the video team as a senior supervising producer; he will be based in Singapore and will report to Jamieson Lesko.

Visual Editor Peter Santilli’s portfolio has expanded to include both Markets and Business News. Peter reports to Tonia Cowan.

Xavier Wang joined the Journal as a video journalist in New York, reporting to Xiaotian Zhang. Previously, Xavier worked for NowThis in New York and the Charlotte Observer in North Carolina as a video journalist.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
