Timothy L. O’Brien, senior executive editor of Bloomberg Opinion, sent out the following on Monday:
Greetings Friends –
Bob Burgess and I are happy to let you know that Jhodie Williams will be joining Bloomberg Opinion as an editor in New York. She’ll handle pieces charting the intersection of culture and significant social trends and developments with the business world and politics. She’ll also help recruit new freelance writers to our ranks.
Jhodie joins us from NBC News, where she was an editor for its former online opinion vertical, THINK. As a section without a dedicated staff of columnists, THINK relied on outside contributors able to respond briskly and thoughtfully on a daily basis to breaking national news. Jhodie helped identify and develop a diverse collection of voices for the site.
Before joining NBC, Jhodie, a graduate of Brooklyn College, spent more than five years editing opinion pieces at CNN (where she intersected with an intern named Jessica Karl — who, thankfully, first brought Jhodie to our attention). At CNN, Jhodie edited op-eds written by on-air analysts, lawmakers, thought leaders and others. She was also CNN’s lead editor for personal essays connected to breaking news events.
She also has experience developing podcasts — including helping to produce the first season of “NATAL,” a podcast about Black families and their unique experiences having babies and journeying through parenthood. She also helped produce two seasons of “YouHadMeAtBlack,” a storytelling platform for Black millennials.
Jhodie’s first day will be April 10. Please welcome her aboard.
Best,
Tim
