Washington Post names Gold national editor, Rucker deputy national editor

The Washington Post has appointed Matea Gold national editor and Philip Rucker deputy national editor.

Both Gold and Rucker will help expand coverage in Washington and across the country, while ensuring that The Post continues to break the biggest news stories.

Gold has been with The Post for over 8 years, recently serving as interim deputy national editor. Before that, she was editor for political enterprise and investigations. She also worked as a staff reporter covering money and politics for the national desk. Previously, Gold was with the Los Angeles Times/Chicago Tribune for over 15 years. Gold has a B.A. in English from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Rucker recently served as The Post’s senior Washington correspondent. He has been with The Post for over 15 years, holding various roles, including metro reporter, Maryland political reporter, national political reporter, congressional reporter, White House correspondent and White House bureau chief, among other roles. He was also a political analyst at MSNBC. Rucker graduated from Yale University, and has received numerous awards, including the Aldo Beckman Award for overall excellence in White House coverage.
