Washington Post names Bethea deputy education editor

The Washington Post has tapped April Bethea as deputy education editor, a role that Bethea had filled on an interim basis for the past several months.

Bethea joined The Post in 2016 as a homepage producer. She later on served as the national homepage editor and curated the homepage of washingtonpost.com and The Post’s classic tablet app as early morning producer, collaborating with top newsroom editors.

She was then promoted to the post of night editor, local desk where she edited stories for online and print about everything the local desk covers.

Bethea has also worked as a reporting intern at Cox Newspapers – Washington, D.C. bureau, The (Minneapolis) Star-Tribune – St. Paul bureau, and The Associated Press – Atlanta bureau. She was also an intern on the state government and Wake County desk at The News and Observer.

She has also served as a digital news editor at The Charlotte Observer.

Bethea is a B.A. in journalism and mass communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
