The Washington Post has tapped Derek Hawkins to serve as an assistant visual enterprise editor, National. A Post statement announced that in this role, Hawkins will “help conceive and execute high-impact visual and immersive storytelling,
“Derek will help drive timely coverage that conveys complex information in visually compelling and unconventional ways, collaborating with Photo, Video, Graphics, Audio and Design.”
For the past three years, Hawkins was on the General Assignment desk. In 2018, he launched The Cybersecurity 202 newsletter and wrote pieces on election security, privacy and hacking. He worked for Morning Mix and reported for Metro and Investigative,
Hawkins joined the Post in 2015 as an investigative intern via American University’s Investigative Reporting Workshop.
Hawkins has a B.A. in journalism from Northeastern University.
