American City Business Journals, which operates 45 business publications around the country, has told its staff photographers that they are being laid off, multiple sources tell Talking Biz News.
The move is effective Jan. 1.
Not all of the Charlotte-based company’s publications have staff photographers. Many rely on freelancers or staff writers to take photos. The full-time staff photographers — about a dozen — are being told that they can freelance.
Publications that list photographers on their staff pages include the South Florida Business Journal, the San Francisco Business Times, the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal and the Charlotte Business Journal.
Company executives did not return an email on Tuesday seeking comment.
