Award-winning journalist Rob Walters has been appointed editor of the Kingsport Times News.
Walters brings more than 30 years of experience, including print, broadcast and digital journalism, to the newsroom. He joins from the Bristol Herald Courier, where he has held the post of managing editor since 2016.
Prior to that, he was city editor/assistant managing editor at the Frederick News-Post. Before that, he was ACE, business editor, at York Daily Record. He began his career as a reporter at The Bakersfield Californian.
“Rob brings four decades of experience in a diverse variety of markets,” said Times news publisher Rick Thomason. “Each of those stops in his career has given him challenges he has met and expectations he has exceeded. With almost five years under his belt in the Tri-Cities, he has a broad knowledge of the region and understands the myriad opportunities.”
Walters has also received top honors, including a Scripps Howard Public Service, a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, and two SABEW Best in Business awards, as well as multiple state and national Freedom of Information awards.
Also, his team at the Bristol Herald Courier received the 2018 Scripps Howard Award for Community Journalism.
