Travis Fain, a state government reporter at NBC station WRAL-TV Ch. 5 in Raleigh, N.C., is set to depart after more than two decades in journalism.
Fain wrote on X/Twitter:
“Well, some personal news: I’m leaving WRAL, and journalism, before the end of this year. An amicable parting, but it’s time to do something else. I have iron in the fire, but nothing set. My thanks to WRAL, and thanks to you for reading.”
Prior to joining WRAL-TV, he was a statehouse reporter at The Daily Press in Richmond. He has also worked as a watchdog reporter at Greensboro News & Record, and a staff writer at Winston-Salem Journal.
Previously, he covered North Carolina government for multiple clients as a freelancer. He also worked as a senior reporter at McClatchy for 10 years and a staff writer at Cox Newspapers.
Fain has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia.
