The Houston Chronicle has hired Sarah Smith as a senior enterprise reporter. Smith worked at the Chronicle from December 2018 to June 2021 as a metro reporter covering housing and homelessness.
Since June 2021, Smith has covered housing, poverty, mental health, and religion for ProPublica, where she previously was a fellow and freelancer. She was an investigative reporter at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
She reported for The Associated Press and was an editorial fellow at The Atlantic and the National Journal. She interned at the Philadelphia Inquirer and Politico.
Smith graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.
