Steve Suo has joined ProPublica as Northwest editor. Recently, he was a data team editor at USA Today.
Before that, Suo worked at The Oregonian/OregonLive.com for more than seven years in various roles. These included assistant team leader for breaking news, managing producer for Portland team, managing producer for data hub and managing producer for watchdog and data driven enterprise.
Previously, he worked at The Oregonian as a staff writer from July 1994 to December 2008 as a staff writer. During this time, he shared a Pulitzer Prize with colleagues in 2007. Before that, he was a finalist for a Pulitzer in 2005.
He was a trainer at the Poynter Institute and covered local government, focused on regional planning and transportation for The Virginian-Pilot.
Suo has a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College and a master’s degree from Harvard Kennedy School.
