Sylvia Bugg has been promoted to chief programming executive and general manager of general audience programming at PBS, reports Politico.
Previously, she was vice president, programming, overseeing the general audience programming editorial team and leading the content strategy across all genres, including news, public affairs, documentaries, history, science, natural history and arts programs.
Previously, Bugg worked at PBS from 1993 to 1999. During her six-year tenure, she was promoted to five positions, including department assistant to associate director, programming.
She again joined the company in 2012 as director programming, after which she became the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s vice president, diversity and innovation. Then, she held the post of vice president, diversity and television content.
Bugg has also worked at Discovery Inc. for more than 12 years. There, she held numerous roles, including director of operations, supervising producer, and manager for editorial review and development. She was also involved in human resource management, relationship building, project management and process improvement and communications and branding.
Bugg is a B.A. in communications from Old Dominion University. She is an M.A. in communication: journalism and public affairs from American University. She is also an M.B.A. from University of Maryland – Robert H. Smith School of Business. She is also an EdD in organizational change and leadership from the University of Southern California.
