Albert Sun is joining The New York Times as a graphics editor. Previously, Sun was leading The Times open-source coronavirus data initiative and has contributed heavily to the reporting, development and maintenance of the tracking project.
In his new role, Sun will continue to be involved with the pandemic tracking project.
Sun came to The Times in 2011 as a developer on the Interactive News team. In 2017, he joined the News Platforms team, where he led efforts to improve The Times’ ability to translate and present journalism in languages other than English.
He has also worked with the Product and Engineering teams, as well as with the International desk and colleagues in China and Mexico.
Prior to that, Sun was a graphics editor at The Wall Street Journal and has also interned at the Journal. He also served as web editor-in-chief of The Daily Pennsylvanian and was a technology writer intern at BusinessWeek.
He was also a beat reporter at The Daily Pennsylvanian.
Sun graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.
