NY Times promotes Singhvi to senior staff editor, spatial investigations

We are thrilled to announce that Anjali Singhvi has been promoted to senior staff editor for spatial investigations.

A trained architect, she came to The Times after earning a master’s degree in urban planning at Columbia University. After joining graphics, she quickly became a trailblazer in spatial investigations.

In a 2018 collaboration with visual investigations, she combed through hundreds of photos and videos to create a 3D model of a chemical weapons attack in Syria. The project won an Emmy in the outstanding new approaches category.

In 2022, Anjali led the reporting on a spatial investigation into a deadly fire in the Bronx. The project was recognized by the Online Journalism Awards and was part of a package that was a Pultizer finalist.

Her reporting has also anchored the reconstruction of what the Tulsa massacre destroyed, an investigation into the causes of the Miami building collapse, a 3D tour of where classified documents were stored at Mar-a-Lago and a forensic analysis of the collapse of an apartment building in the Turkey earthquakes.

In her new role, Anjali will continue to report and author stories, with a focus on spatial analysis and 3D reconstructions. She will also provide leadership on those projects, guiding the reporting and modeling efforts. In addition, she’ll work with graphics leadership to establish spatial investigation standards for the department and the newsroom.
