NY Times names Berehulak, Holston staff photographer correspondents

We are thrilled to announce that two incredibly talented journalists are joining The Times as staff photographer correspondents.

Daniel Berehulak, who calls Mexico City home, will continue to contribute to our biggest international storylines, including our ongoing coverage of the conflict in Ukraine.

After graduating from the University of New South Wales with a history degree he started his career as a photographer in a garage-run sport agency in 2000. From 2005 to 2013, Daniel was a staff news photographer with Getty Images, based in London and later New Delhi. In 2013 he embarked upon a freelance career to pursue long-term projects.

Daniel’s work has been recognized with many other awards including six World Press Photo awards; two Photographer of the Year awards from Pictures of the Year International; two George Polk Awards and the prestigious John Faber, Olivier Rebbot and Feature Photography awards from the Overseas Press Club, the Visa d’or Daily Press Award and the Visa d’or Feature Award at the Visa Pour L’image photojournalism festival among others.

 

Kenny Holston is based in Washington, D.C., and will predominantly cover Congress.

Kenny studied photojournalism at Syracuse University and at the Defense Information School at Ft. Meade, Md. He earned a combat action badge for performing the duties of a combat photojournalist in Afghanistan, one of many countries in which he served during his 13 years as a U.S. Air Force photojournalist. In 2015, Kenny was awarded Department of Defense Military Photographer of the Year.

He further distinguished himself by earning an Air Force Commendation Medal while assigned to Air Combat Command, a Joint Service Commendation Medal for his efforts in combat and a Joint Service Achievement Medal while assigned as an autopsy photographer at the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System (A.F.M.E.S.) at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

He became a full-time freelance photojournalist in 2019 and began photographing for The Times in June 2020. Since then, Kenny has been a critical and versatile contributor to our photographic coverage of Capitol Hill and The White House, as well as a steady cadence of important investigative, enterprise and breaking news storylines.
