The following excerpt was sent out from The New York Times:
As the Styles desk evolves its coverage across a number of beats, including breaking news, parties and fashion, we are thrilled to announce new additions to the team and a well-deserved promotion.
Marie Solis returns to Styles as a staff editor after working with us as an editing resident. She joined The Times as part of the first cohort of editing residents, and over her two years in the program also rotated among Flex, Business and most recently Politics, where she edited stories on the G.O.P. primary field and worked closely with reporters on the campaign trail on the weekends.
Marie grew up in the Hudson Valley, where she attended Vassar College.
Callie Holtermann, who started at The Times as a senior news assistant in 2020, is being promoted to a reporter role, in which she will cover breaking news and trends. Callie has worked on The Learning Network, International, Politics and the Flex desk’s Proofing Project. She was the lead reporter for the 2022 Neediest Cases Fund campaign, and has also written for Obits, National, Well and our live briefings.
Prior to The Times, Callie worked on a politics podcast, “Your Political Playlist,” and as a dog walker. She grew up in New Jersey and studied political science at the University of Pennsylvania.
We also wanted to formally announce the relaunch of our nightlife coverage, which has been reconceived these past several months by our senior staff editor Katie Van Syckle.
Katie joined The Times in 2018, and quickly became a key member of the A2/A3 team, lending her meticulous editing skills to the daily print pages. She has also reported for the National, Metro, Business, Styles and Culture desks, and wrote for Metro’s coronavirus live briefing during the early days of the pandemic.
Prior to The Times, Katie was a night and weekend editor at New York magazine’s The Cut, and as a regular contributor to New York magazine, she wrote cover stories and pieces on fashion, entertainment, food, fashion and nightlife. She graduated from Dartmouth College.
