NY Times local investigations fellowship adds three

The following was sent out from The New York Times’ Chris Davis and Sona Patel:

Adam Playford

Adam Playford joins us as data and investigations editor and will work with fellows to help conceive and craft their stories, as well as help us shape data analysis efforts for the entire fellowship class.

Adam comes to the team from The Upshot, where he oversaw data-driven examinations of prenatal testing, hospital prices and insurance fraud. Before joining The Times, Adam was investigations editor at the Tampa Bay Times, where he led projects on a hospital’s deadly mistakes in children’s heart surgery, a local sheriff’s secretive intelligence-gathering operation, and safety problems at a national armored car company. He contributed as an editor to projects that won Pulitzer Prizes in 2021 and2022, and he oversaw data and visuals for two additional Pulitzer Prize-winning investigations in 2016.

Alex Peck

Alex Peck, who is based in Los Angeles, joins the team as an associate operations manager supporting the Local Investigations Fellowship and the L.A. bureau.

Alex comes to us from talent management and production company Thruline Entertainment, where she supported the company’s creative development in scripted film and television and managed its internship program. Alex began her career as an assistant at Abrams Artists Agency (now A3) and is a graduate of Temple University.

Emily Strong

Emily Strong joins the team as our project manager, supporting fellowship milestones and our fellows’ work.

Emily comes to us from the Poynter Institute, where she oversaw a team of project managers and producers that facilitated journalism and leadership training programs and events, such as GlobalFactand the Leadership Academy for Women in Media. She is a certified Project Management Professional (P.M.P.) and Agile scrum master.

Please join us in welcoming the team.
