Thomas Erdbrink has been named the first Northern Europe bureau chief at The New York Times. For nearly eight years, he was the Times resident Iran correspondent, where his deep knowledge and fluency in the language provided penetrating insights into the country.
Erdbrink moved to Tehran in 2001. Before joining the Times, he worked there for The Washington Post and the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad.
Additionally, he also has his own stage credits and he recently completed a sold-out theater tour in the Netherlands, a one-man show where he told the story of the Middle East. Also, his nine-episode documentary series premiered in the United States on nytimes.com and was broadcast by “Frontline.”
