The New York Times has tapped Jonathan Ellis to serve as deputy editor of The Upshot. Recently, he served as deputy editor in sports.
Ellis has been with the Times for seven years, joining as a senior editor. He also served as deputy editor of climate and environment and senior politics editor.
Previously, Ellis worked at the Times from October 2006 to March 2014, holding the posts of home page producer, politics producer, chief producer of the news desk and senior editor of digital platforms.
He served as managing editor of Mashable.
Ellis has a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan.
