The following was sent out from The New York Times’ Shannon Robertson and Fred Bierman:
We’re happy to announce that Rachel Buigas-Lopez is joining the news and features Design teams as a staff editor.
Readers of The Times have encountered Rachel’s work for years. She has designed for many weekly culture and lifestyles sections, including Food, Weekend Arts, and Arts & Leisure, in addition to daily and enterprise news pages.
Rachel first came to The Times as the Thomas Morgan visual intern in 2018, while she was a student at New York University. At N.Y.U., she studied integrated digital media and studio art, and was the creative director for the weekly campus newspaper, Washington Square News. She returned to The Times after graduation and since then, we’ve come to rely on her impressive versatility and ability to manage both creative and organizational challenges. Rachel picks up new duties and skills with lightning speed and good cheer.
Rachel will continue to design pages throughout the report, splitting her time between the news and features teams. We’re lucky to have her. Please join us in congratulating Rachel.
