The following excerpt was sent out from The New York Times’ Opinion editor Kathleen Kingsbury:
Now, we are excited to announce Alex Kingsbury will take over leadership of this important mandate in the newly created position of senior editor, international. We’ve expanded the previous role of World editor: Alex will coordinate Opinion’s international coverage across the report, overseeing and editing our aforementioned team on World guest essays as well as working closely with our foreign affairs writers on the editorial board and our colleagues in special projects, graphics, video and audio.
Alex came to Opinion in 2018 from The Boston Globe, where he was the deputy ideas editor. He has since had a variety of roles in Opinion from running the editorial board to utility editing to, most recently, penning a series of editorials on right-wing extremism.
Kristen Cruzata shows how indispensable she is to the smooth running of Opinion every day, thanks to excellent judgment, leadership skills and boundless empathy. She has demonstrated these abilities on several projects, including Opinion’s fantastic on-site, this year.
She’s also a valuable partner to me, who I turn to regularly for counsel. That’s why I’m delighted to announce that we’re promoting her to chief of staff to the Opinion editor. In this newly created position, she will continue to craft Opinion’s communications strategy and be an important conduit in the department itself but also across The Times.
Congratulations, Alex and Kristen.
