The News & Observer has appointed Dawn Baumgartner Vaughan Capitol bureau chief.
Vaughan has covered government and politics since joining the paper in 2016, and has specifically covered state government since 2019.
An excerpt from the announcement reads:
As bureau chief, Vaughan will take the lead in covering the politics of North Carolina’s legislative and executive branches. Working closely with other journalists who cover state government, she will follow the key negotiations among top leaders and how the decisions they make connect to money, power and winning elections.
Previously, she reported for The Herald-Sun in North Carolina and was a staff writer at The Roanoke Times.
Vaughan has a B.A. from Virginia Tech.
Be sure to congratulate Vaughan on Twitter.
