New York state NBC station hires Thurston as 4 p.m. anchor

WPTZ-TV 5, an NBC affiliate in Plattsburgh, N.Y., has tapped Jack Thurston to serve as a 4 p.m. anchor. Since April 2011, he has been a reporter at NBCUniversal.

There, Thurston managed the daily operations of the Vermont bureau for NBC 10 Boston and regional cable network NECN. He also oversaw the editorial direction for Vermont coverage and contributed to the state’s NBC 5 station and other NBC-owned stations.

Before this, he was at WCAX-TV Ch. 3, a CBS station in Burlington, Vt., where he worked for more than nine years as a reporter, senior reporter, associate producer and substitute anchor.

He has won numerous honors, including three Edward R. Murrow awards.

Thurston has a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College in Vermont and a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.
