Metro UK editor Ted Young will step down in March after more than eight years with the free daily newspaper.
His departure comes as the daily weathers economic hardships, including rising energy and news printing costs.
The print and online Metro products will come under the helm of Metro.co.uk editor Deborah Arthurs, who will assume overall leadership.
Meanwhile, some staff roles will undergo slight change, while others will be faced with the risk of elimination.
Prior to joining Metro UK, Young was an editor at The New York Daily News and Daily News America Online. Before that, he was an editor at both Mail Online and London Lite. He also served as a night editor at The Sun and as an executive editor at the Daily Express.
Young graduated from the University of Cambridge.
