McClure becomes commissioning editor at The Guardian

Tess McClure

The Guardian has tapped Tess McClure to serve as a commissioning editor. In her new role, she will cover nature, species loss and the biodiversity crisis. She will also edit the “age of extinction” section.

Recently, McClure held the post of Aotearoa New Zealand correspondent.

Previously, she worked as a research associate at the Interdisciplinary Center for Innovative Theory and Empirics (INCITE) at Columbia University. She was deputy editor at Vice Media, and worked as a digital features producer at Radio New Zealand.

She was also a business journalist at Fairfax Media.

McClure has a bachelor’s degree in English and history from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand and an M.A. in journalism from Columbia University, New York.
