Allison Altshule

Allison Altshule, a former reporter for Solitary Watch and legislative fellow at government relations firm NVG, joined INN on May 22 as the first audience research fellow.

In the role, Altshule will spend the nine-month fellowship developing audience research tools and working one-on-one with INN members to help them answer their most pressing questions about their audiences.

As INN’s first audience research fellow, Allison Altshule will work with INN members to help them answer their most pressing questions about their audiences.

“Growing audiences and deepening relationships is critical for nonprofit news organizations right now,” said Sam Cholke, manager of distribution and audience growth at INN. “Allison Altshule brings a critical understanding of the challenges unique to nonprofit news and a passion for news audiences to our work, and we are more than thrilled to welcome her as a fellow.”

A 2022 graduate from Georgetown University, Altshule will collaborate with leading researchers from Northwestern University, the University of Utah and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam to incorporate the latest research on news audiences and their relationship to nonprofit news into new resources for INN members.

“I want to help the important journalism INN members produce have the largest possible impact on its readers,” said Altshule. “I’m most excited to meet with newsrooms one-on-one to thoughtfully engage their unique audiences and strengthen their relationships with the communities they serve.”
