Ed Guzman, who grew up in East Los Angeles, is joining the Los Angeles Times as deputy Sports editor.
Guzman most recently served as deputy editor for sports for ESPN’s Andscape and joins The Times after stints at the Oregonian, New York Times, Washington Post and Seattle Times. He also has worked for a nonprofit and was a bilingual member of the city of Hillsboro’s communications team, translating essential COVID-19 safety information during the onset of the pandemic.
He graduated from Stanford University in 1999 and was part of the Sports Journalism Institute’s 1998 class, receiving training designed to support aspiring sports journalists of color and women.
Guzman, who lives in Portland, Ore., with his wife, Jen, and sons, Noé and Asher, has edited numerous Associated Press Sports Editor award-winning projects and is currently a member of the National Assn. of Hispanic Journalists Sports Task Force board. He also mentors students in the Sports Journalism Institute program.
