David Cruz, who joined Gothamist as a news editor in 2020, and recently served as assistant editor of the WNYC People & Power desk, has been promoted to editor of the People & Power desk.
Prior to joining WNYC-FM 93.9, Cruz was editor in chief of the Norwood News in Bronx, where he worked for six years. Before that, he served as a reporter at The Bronx Times. He has also written for and produced at WCBS-AM 880 in New York.
He has also worked at NEWS 12 The Bronx as an assignment desk coordinator.
Cruz is the recipient of several awards, including two New York Press Club awards and several first-place prizes from the New York Press Association and Independent Press. He is also on the board of the New York Press Club.
