Clara Benitez will join Corpus Christi, Texas NBC affiliate KRIS as an evening anchor.
“I’m excited to announce I have accepted an evening anchor role at KRIS6 News in Corpus Christi (anything for Selenas) I never expected to be back in South Texas, but man it feels so good. See you on TV, May 1st,” Benitez said on social media.
Benitez comes from KSWB in San Diego. Before that, Houston media writer Mike McGuff said she was part of the first Latina evening anchor team in the country at KVEO in the Rio Grande Valley. She started her career at KVAL in Eugene, Ore., as a weather anchor and multimedia journalist.
