C-SPAN’s long-time VP of programming Terry Murphy will retire on Jan. 6, 2023. Murphy is a 42-year veteran of C-SPAN who was hired as a field technician in 1981 and then moved into management.
As head of Programming, Murphy guided the daily editorial decision making and set the network’s overall editorial strategy. C-SPAN co-CEO Susan Swain said:
“It’s impossible to overstate the impact Terry has had on our network. Terry should also be recognized for his outsized editorial impact as an advocate for the public’s right to access their government. When Congress or other public officials said, ‘Event’s closed,’ Terry always asked why.”
Richard Weinstein, VP of Digital Media has been named Murphy’s replacement and will serve as VP of content. In his new role, Weinstein will “further merge traditional television and digital content for use across platforms to best serve C-SPAN audiences.”
Weinstein joined C-SPAN in 1986 and has worked in various departments, including video productions, programming operations and editorial. He also oversaw C-SPAN.org, the acclaimed Video Library, and the C-SPAN Now mobile video app.
