The New York Times obituaries desk has welcomed Herbert Buchsbaum as an editor.
He joins from International, where he oversaw coverage of Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Previously, he served as Middle East editor, deputy Asia editor and senior international editor. He also worked freelance.
Buchsbaum is founding editor of The New York Times Upfront, a national news magazine for teens, co-published by Scholastic and The New York Times.
He formerly reported for the Miami Herald, Macon Telegraph & News and Savannah Morning News.
Buchsbaum has a M.S. in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
