Julie Bloom, deputy editor on The New York Times National desk, has been named editor on the Live desk. An excerpt from the announcement reads:
“Her mission will be to build on the successes of Live over the last two years and, by working with leaders across the newsroom and in Product, to help better define live journalism at The Times and create an even more reader-friendly live experience.”
Bloom joined the Times in 2007 as culture web editor. She was later promoted to the post of international culture editor.
She then served as deputy weekend editor, responsible for digital operations and helping to edit major breaking news.
Bloom has a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s degree from New York University.
