NBC News has hired four journalists for its business, technology and innovation desk.

Brian Cheung will join the unit as a business and data reporter. His reporting will cover the current state of the American economy as it emerges from a global pandemic and as the midterms approach. He will start on Sept. 19.

Cheung joins NBC News from Yahoo Finance, where he was a writer and on-air reporter covering the Federal Reserve, economics, and banking. This role marks a return for Cheung to NBCUniversal, as he previously served as an intern four different times.

J.J. McCorvey is joining the team as a digital business reporter. He will be based in Atlanta, where he will focus on regional and national economic trends. Most recently, he covered personal finance and the economy for the Wall Street Journal.

Laura Wides-Muñoz will be joining the team as the senior tech investigations editor. Most recently, she served as the Los Angeles Times’ deputy Washington bureau chief. She previously worked for ABC News in D.C. as the executive editor for News practices, as well as for Fusion, where she was the vice president of special projects and editorial strategy.

Candace Kuo will be returning to NBC News as a senior producer for the unit, after previously working as a “Today” producer for over a decade. In this role, Kuo will work with the team to provide content across all of NBC News’ video platforms. Most recently, she was a senior producer for CBS Mornings.

McCorvey, Wides-Muñoz and Kuo will start the week of Sept 6.
