Rita Trichur, a business reporter at the Toronto Star, writes Sunday about how she first had a story published in the Star’s Starship page for kids when she was 6 and was paid $10 — which set her on a path into journalism.
Trichur writes, “It has been 27 years since Starship gave me my first byline. My own story came full circle when the Star hired me as a business reporter last year.
“Now I tell tales of a different sort, mostly about financial services and media companies. But at its core, business reporting is really about people.
“My job allows me to peer into a world that is totally different from my own, meet folks from all walks of life and write their stories.
“Best of all, though, my going rate is no longer 10 bucks.”
