Leticia Miranda

Tim O’Brien, senior executive editor of Bloomberg Opinion, sent out the following on Wednesday:

Greetings Folks —

Bob Burgess and I are pleased to tell you that Leticia Miranda will be joining Opinion as a retail columnist based in New York.

Leticia has been a business and retail reporter at NBC News in New York since 2019. Prior to that she spent four years covering retail and breaking news for BuzzFeed. She’s also been a reporting fellow at ProPublica and the Nation. She’s a graduate of the University of California at Santa Cruz, where she majored in Latin American and Latino Studies; she also has a master’s degree in journalism from New York University.

Leticia has covered a broad swath of topics and trends in the retail world and is a font of great ideas and energy. She’s written extensively about Amazon’s facial recognition technology and shenanigans among vendors on its platform. She’s also covered private equity’s takeover of big box retailers such as Toys “R” Us; marketing practices aimed at kids by companies such as Juul; the perils of buy-now-pay-later plans; the K-shaped recovery in consumer spending post-Covid; gig worker hiring in retail; the big fast food breakfast race as workers return to the office; the economic effects of heat on the retail economy, and retailers paying handsome fees to private cargo ships to try avoiding the supply chain crunch.

She’ll be able to meet our New York team in person when she starts on Oct. 31. And she’ll have the good luck to meet the rest of you if you come visit us here.

Thanks,

Tim
