This is a period of growth and transformation for WSJ events. The team has moved from producing in-person conferences and festivals to a full calendar of virtual events and, now, will embark on producing hybrid events. Working with the head of live journalism and special content, you will help shape our approach in this new multichannel medium: specifically how we plan, program and, most importantly, cover our live events across the Journal’s platforms.
We’re looking for someone with a background working on the newsroom side of top tier events who has a track record of getting things done with an emphasis on originality and exclusivity. You will work to set the news agenda at our events, developing content for the conversations that take place onstage and executing coverage plans before, during and after the event.
You will build, own, and manage relationships with tech behemoths and upstart founders, but also researchers on the cutting edge who are featured at Journal gatherings. You will have a network that spans industries and continents, an eye for new thinkers and leaders, deep knowledge of the current competitive landscape, and a sense for the topics people care about now and in the future that will set our tech events apart from competitors.
The ideal candidate will come to the role with a global perspective, deep curiosity about new technologies, and an eye for emerging leaders in established companies.
Other qualifications for the job include:
A background and/or interest in editorial content and not event management (this is not a logistics or operations role–you will not be responsible for selecting menus or lighting, that’s another team member’s role)
Experience as a reporter or editor covering technology
The ability to keep your cool while juggling the many moving parts of a live event
An in-depth knowledge of technology, business and culture
A love of research and reporting: What’s an angle that hasn’t been explored before?
Superior writing and editing skills
You will report to the Editor for Live Journalism, Kim Last. While you may start the job working from home, you can be based in our New York or San Francisco office.
