This is an opportunity to lead a growing area of our coverage at a time when our audience is navigating a changed world where many decisions–from taking a business trip to buying a movie ticket–still require some calculation of risk. Travel is coming back, but with it are new rules of the road and unexpected hurdles at destinations. Managing personal health for many means coping with lingering effects of Covid, and the mental-health toll continues to ripple through families, schools and institutions. At the same time, evolving research and approaches offer new answers to perennial questions about leading a full life, taking an informed approach to personal wellness, building solid relationships and making the most of our spare time.
You will drive daily coverage on these topics and more, and you will lead projects and major coverage story lines, talking through stories with editors and strategizing with reporters. You will work with visual, audio, video and strategy colleagues; help manage planning; and edit copy.
You are a skilled editor and coach with creative approaches to storytelling and fluency in using data and SEO to shape and sharpen headlines and story angles. You excel at conceptual stories and packages, jump onto news and spot opportunities for enterprise. You read widely and stay on top of trends and new research. You put the audience at the center of everything you do.
We’re looking for someone who has 3 or more years of experience managing reporters and a proven ability to break news as well as tell compelling feature stories across platforms.
While you will likely start remotely, the job is based in New York and reports to Nikki Waller, Life & Work coverage chief.
To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter explaining how you would approach the job and examples of your work. The application deadline is July 9.
