The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced reporter to cover mergers and acquisitions, IPOs and the business of investment banking in Asia. The successful candidate would be expected to lead our coverage of Wall Street banks in the region, as well as break news of mergers and IPOs, with special emphasis on the investments that are funding China’s booming technology industry.
This position is a core markets and finance beat at the world’s leading financial publication and as such is highly competitive. Asia produces some eye-catching M&A, including Walmart’s $16 billion takeover of Flipkart and HNA’s disposal of assets including its 25% stake in Hilton Hotels. U.S. investors are lining up for stakes in technology companies such as Ant Financial, Bytedance and Didi — a flood of capital that has fed a host of innovative business ideas but also a fierce, cash-burning competition that promises a brutal day of reckoning. Meanwhile, China is at long last opening up to U.S. financial institutions. How much ground can they really make up?
