The Wall Street Journal seeks a New York-based editor to oversee a new initiative to solicit and edit articles, videos, essays and storytelling in other formats by people in their teens and 20s. This editor will be a public-facing ambassador at universities to deepen the relationship the Journal has with college and graduate students, and the editor will run an editorial process to publish content created by students, young adults and young professionals.

This editor will work as part of a team creating a new digital magazine for young people. The magazine is a project tied to the Journal’s strategy department, which is an incubator for new technologies, audience growth, community and news innovation. The department includes the full range of journalistic talent that makes the Journal one of the leading news organizations in the world — writers, video journalists, graphics designers, editors, product managers, engineers, designers, data scientists, artificial intelligence experts and more — in a lively, collaborative project to discover new offerings of journalistic value.

The young voices editor job offers the right candidate the ability to own a multi-dimensional project and also to collaborate with others in the newsroom and product, design and engineering teams to create an exciting community of young people connecting over thoughtful content.

This editor should have good storytelling and news judgment and a comfort with audience data as an input in decision-making. The position requires proficiency with digital publishing tools, and good knowledge of the markers of quality in various mediums.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience writing, editing and curating content for a high-profile publisher.
  • Someone with a lens on students and people in their teens and 20s: What are they obsessed with right now? And how do they find their content?
  • A background in writing as well as good knowledge of video, graphics, audio and other mediums is important.
