WSJ seeks a deputy autos bureau chief in Detroit

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a deputy bureau chief in Detroit to help lead our autos coverage.

The autos industry is one of the most exciting industries we cover. Its shift to electric vehicles is a huge story, from the startups trying to be the next Tesla to the incumbents trying to evolve their business models. The industry is also affected by major economic pressures, from inflation and the labor shortage to the global chip shortage.

You will help us identify the right coverage veins, coach reporters to deliver scoops and impactful enterprise and assist the bureau chief on all fronts.

You will:

  • Help identify coverage veins and drive coverage
  • Help reporters strategize to get scoops and deliver enterprise
  • Coach and support reporters
  • Help manage the bureau, including in the chief’s absence

You have:

  • A proven track record dominating a business or finance beat
  • Experience or high interest in the autos beat
  • A proven track record of working well with colleagues

The Journal’s reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards.
