WSJ. magazine seeks articles editor

WSJ. Magazine is seeking an experienced staff editor to assign, edit and in some cases, write front of book and feature stories relating to luxury lifestyle, including the topics of art, architecture, design, entertainment, travel, entrepreneurship and more.

The ideal candidate will have experience with editorial packaging, particularly conceiving and working consistently on a well-paced news section, with both short articles and feature-length stories on a variety of topics as well as bring along a stable of excellent writers.

The staff editor should have a wide range of interests and be versed in the news of the day, an awareness of various cultural happenings around the globe, as well as a solid journalistic background and a deep familiarity with SEO and social. Must be able to work independently as well as part of a small team of editors dedicated to creating an exceptional magazine each month.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years as an editor at a major lifestyle publication
  • Strong editing and writing skills and solid news judgment
  • Demonstrated aptitude in writing/curating/editing fun and addictive content
  • Demonstrated ability to both give direction and take direction
  • Ability to work nimbly (and calmly) on deadline with a variety of personalities in a collaborative environment
  • Experience with social media

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
