Wired seeks a director of product

For nearly 30 years, Wired has been the best source for those  who want to understand technology and how it is changing the world. The brand helps readers make sense of the latest science news, offers practical recommendations on what to buy, and provides in-depth reporting that is grounded in unrivaled access to the tech industry. Wired reaches 44 million people each month with six editions worldwide. And it boasts ASME, SPD and Webby award-winning content in editorial, photo, and design.

As we look to grow its editorial influence and the success of its subscription business, Wired is seeking a Director of Product to oversee all of the brand’s product development. In this role, you will oversee the full-cycle conceptualization, development, and evolution of Wired’s site and digital identity. In addition, you will play a core role in helping shape the next chapter of Wired’s digital brand, working closely with key editorial, consumer marketing, and corporate stakeholders to expand Wired globally.

This role reports to the Head of Subscription and Membership Products at Condé Nast.

Responsibilities include:

  • Product ownership. You will oversee and direct the priorities of the brand’s product team. Through product innovation and iteration, these teams drive the continued growth of the overall Wired business and underlying KPIs, including total audience, engaged audience, and revenue.

  • Editorial collaboration. You will partner with Wired’s editorial and audience development teams to create a compelling editorial product vision, and will execute against that vision. This includes not only enabling readers to discover the Wired content they already know and love, but also helping them engage with the brand online in new ways that build habit and deepen their relationship with the magazine.

  • Team culture. Partnering with design, engineering and analytics, you will encourage a healthy and high-performing team culture within the Wired product development team and in your partnership with other Conde Nast product teams. For example, you will lead the team’s monthly meetings and quarterly planning.

  • Cross-functional alignment. Acting as the senior ambassador for Wired product strategy, you will align roadmaps across Wired business stakeholders, product development leadership, and other corporate functions. In this role, you will ensure smooth and tight collaboration with Condé Nast teams with relevant priorities and technical interdependencies.

  • Prioritization. You will identify, evaluate and ultimately measure features and projects based on our company’s strategy and the shared objectives and key results of the Global Product and Technology.

The ideal candidate has:

  • 5+ years developing products at traditional media, social media, or content platform companies

  • Extensive experience with experiment-driven consumer product development techniques

  • Executive-level communication skills and the ability to use storytelling and conceptual narratives to drive change and influence at all levels
