Washington state paper seeks a business reporter

The Columbian, Southwest Washington’s news leader in print and online, seeks a full-time reporter to join its metro news team covering business.

Regular hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, with occasional overtime and weekend work. The ideal candidate will enjoy both hard news and enterprise work, and will regularly produce in-depth packages for Sunday Business sections and online special reports. We seek someone with the desire, knowledge and experience to join us on social media as well as in print.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Three or more years of reporting experience for a daily newspaper.
  • Demonstrated ability to report and write complex enterprise and project stories.
  • Demonstrated experience using social media and multimedia as tools for gathering and disseminating news.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
