Wall Street Journal seeks a London based audio producer

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a London-based audio producer for our podcasting team. You will work with newsroom reporters and editors, as well as video colleagues, to develop and produce daily news briefs and podcasts. A professional background in audio journalism, top-notch writing skills and strong experience producing in the studio and the field are essential for this role.

As an audio producer, you will be responsible for editing and mixing multiple audio packages daily. A strong understanding of the news and good editorial judgment are key, as are quick and accurate audio editing skills with a standard DAW (Adobe Audition or Pro Tools preferred).

The position is based in our London office and reports to the Supervising Producer, What’s News AM.

You will:

  • Research topics of interest to The Wall Street Journal’s audience
  • Source timely news and archival audio
  • Pitch and write news headlines, wraps with sound and script segments for podcast episodes
  • Edit and mix full episodes of a daily AM podcast on deadline
  • Book, plan and execute in-person and remote interviews with WSJ reporters and sources, coaching those without audio experience
  • Coordinate with reporters and editors in New York and other offices
  • Propose new and original ideas for timely and relevant programming
  • Work to improve the social media presence of podcasts.
  • Serve as a backup editor for our daily morning news podcast
  • Manage multiple projects in various stages of production
  • Fact-check and ensure that all journalistic and legal standards are followed
  • Be able to work from 6 a.m. London time on weekdays and during some holidays as part of a regular rotation and as news developments warrant
  • Be flexible to work late hours and weekends as production and news developments may warrant.
  • Serve as a backup host on podcasts, as needed
  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including working on other podcasts, series and specials.

You have:

  • At least three years of experience serving as an audio producer in a daily news environment, preferably at a global news organization
  • Experience working on news podcasts, preferably with a business focus
  • A track record of producing quality audio content efficiently under tight deadline
  • Knowledge of current events, U.S. and world politics, economics, and a nose for news
  • Ability to convey news and tell business and market stories in creative ways
  • Skills operating studio boards as well as field equipment
  • A professional-level understanding of Adobe Audition, Pro Tools or another DAW
  • The ability to communicate clearly and a collaborative spirit
