The Times-Picayune | The Advocate is seeking a sharp and savvy digital editor to join our team at the largest news organization in Louisiana. We’re looking for an experienced journalist who understands how to grow digital audiences and keep them engaged. This position can be based in any of our three newsrooms in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, or Lafayette.
There is no shortage of interesting, important, and downright fun stories in south Louisiana, and we’re looking for a journalist who is passionate about getting those stories in front of more people.
In this position, you’ll work on our digital audience team to help manage content on nola.com, theadvocate.com and theacadianaadvocate.com, and our related apps and digital products. You should enjoy working in a collaborative newsroom environment, and always be seeking new ways to engage readers while upholding our standards of fairness and accuracy.
In this role, you will:
- Optimize stories for digital performance and promote them across social platforms, push alerts, email newsletters, homepages, and apps.
- Make decisions about which stories to prioritize on which platforms and write snappy headlines, share text and other copy that will draw in readers.
- Create original, timely digital content – from writing a quick trending story to creating a list or story sidebar.
- Monitor social media and other news outlets for breaking and trending news and advise the newsroom on stories we’re missing.
- Analyze our stories’ digital performance – from pageviews and users, to time spent and digital conversions – to help make decisions about promotion strategies.
- Advise reporters and editors in the newsroom on how our coverage is performing online and make suggestions for improvement.
- Help plan for digital coverage of major news events, coordinating with editors and reporters on breaking / developing stories, live coverage, video plans and more.
- In collaboration with other digital editors and newsroom leaders, launch new products aimed at growing our readership and digital subscribers.
