The Takeout is looking for a [fast] food writer! The Takeout writes obsessive, unpretentious, and irreverent coverage of cooking and fast food, and I’m looking for a few freelancers to join us.
Deadline: 29 April 2022
ABOUT THE COMPANY
We’re lucky that The Takeout is based in Chicago, and we believe covering food and culture from our perch in the Midwest offers a different perspective. But we won’t be strictly Americana; The Takeout intends to follow our curiosities—and our noses—to wherever there’s an interesting story to tell, a special recipe to share.
The focus is fast food and cooking, but from an unpretentious perspective. We’re not Bon Appétit, and we’re not writing recipes. We’re raving about Taco Bell, what to buy at Costco, or which hot sauces give the worst diarrhea.
Our angle is pretty distinct—unpretentious, passionate, and opinionated—so please approach your pitches accordingly. It’s hard to walk the lines between authoritative, credible, thoughtful, and fun, but that’s what you should be aiming for.
