We are looking for a creative multimedia editor to specialize in motion graphics and animation for Visual Investigations. You will help us craft the very essence of what makes VI successful: the presentation and explanation of visual evidence. You will be a visual thinker with years of experience animating and editing digital video. You will collaborate with members of the VI, Video and Graphics teams

Responsibilities:

  • Create and apply motion to scripted video sequences and assets like maps, data and 3-D models
  • Suggest visual assets (maps, charts, diagrams) and visual approaches (animating data or cartography) that add journalistic value
  • Find new and interesting ways to explain and illustrate stories for our mobile and desktop audiences and collaborate with the social visuals team. There will also be some occasional video editing.
  • Work with reporters and producers to shape ideas along visual lines early in the reporting process
  • Help maintain and contribute to our Premiere video templates. You will partner with producers and designers to manage and improve the visual architecture for different kinds of video.
  • Work on breaking news stories and longer-term enterprise and investigative reporting projects

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience
  • Experience with After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator and 3D modeling software
  • Solid journalistic and visual judgment
  • Experience working collaboratively and creatively, and meeting tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong drive, taking the initiative to surface challenges and opportunities and develop and act on solutions
  • Commitment to Visual Investigations’ mission and values

The annual base pay range for this role is between $105,308.84 and $136,000.00.
