Responsibilities And Impact

The TMT news team at S&P Global Market Intelligence is looking for a skilled reporter to cover the US federal agencies that regulate tech, media and telecom companies, as well as the legislative bodies with oversight of these sectors. As a tech policy reporter, you will be responsible for researching, analyzing, and reporting on how regulatory and legal decisions impact the nation’s major tech companies such as Google, Facebook and Apple, and how the companies interact with decision makers on issues such as net neutrality, consumer privacy, cybersecurity, media ownership and the role of social media. You will provide in-depth coverage explaining the rationale behind regulations and policies at the state and federal level and develop insightful analysis on likely impacts to businesses and consumers. The reporter will also write about how existing and proposed regulations are impacting business decisions, including M&A, strategic investments, buybacks, dividends and R&D.

Basic Requirements

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of professional journalism experience.
  • Openness to editorial feedback
  • Command of journalistic standard methodology (AP style, libel issues, etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years professional journalism experience
  • Knowledge of the communications, media and information technology industries a big advantage
  • Knowledge of federal and state agency process and policy, as well as legislative procedures a plus
  • Experience with data journalism

Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates)

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $51,289 – $105,400. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
