The Lever is looking for an enterprising and aggressive senior investigative reporter with a lengthy track record of delivering groundbreaking national scoops that break through the noise and facilitate change.
The reporter will be a reliable self-starter, using their deep well of sources, mastery of open-record requests, and data-analysis prowess to generate ambitious investigative reports on political and financial corruption. And they must have the writing chops to transform weeks or months of reporting into a clear and compelling narrative.
This is a senior-level hire — only candidates with extensive experience producing high-caliber investigations related to government and corporate accountability will be considered. This is a fully remote and full-time, salaried position with benefits including a generous health care stipend, office expense reimbursements, and paid time off.
Salary Range: $80,000-$120,000
Qualifications:
- At least seven years experience as a reporter, with at least three years focused on investigations.
- Extensive experience filing record requests, tracking political donations, and scrutinizing business records.
- A proven history of delivering impactful investigative reporting projects.
- A strong grasp of what makes for a good Lever story.
- A keen ability to track and respond to the ever-shifting news cycle.
- Proven aptitude in hitting deadlines and filing clean and accurate copy on complex, highly scrutinized matters.
- Comfort and proficiency in operating independently, while also working in harmony with a small team of hardworking remote journalists.
