The Herald/Review is looking for an enterprising reporter to cover one of the most active and wide-ranging law enforcement and border beats you’ll find anywhere in the country.
We serve the communities of Cochise County, Arizona, which borders both New Mexico and Mexico. Our area is consistently highlighted in the national debate on border policy. The Herald/Review strives to cover the border stories others don’t — we go more in-depth, more nuanced and stay on the story long after the national publications leave. Herald/Review reporting on this beat has been widely cited and awarded over the years.
This beat also includes our local law enforcement agencies and court activity. You’ll also contribute to our coverage of Fort Huachuca, a Sierra Vista-based military installation focused on cyber security.
Qualifications:
- Ability to juggle breaking news and long-form stories
- Strong knowledge of AP Style
- Excellent writing skills
- Based in Cochise County or willing to relocate
- Highly collaborative and strong communicator
- Spanish fluency preferred
- Experience covering the border, immigration or law enforcement preferred
- Photo/video skills are also a plus
This is a full-time position with full benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, and a 401k retirement plan. We are an equal opportunity employer.
