The Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Va., is seeking Lead Editorial Producer. This position will be responsible for line editing daily and long-form copy; helping reporters to pursue leads and craft well-researched, engaging
stories; updating the website; planning out pages; writing headlines, cutlines, etc.; and proofing pages. The position requires strong copy and content editing skills, an eye for design and dedication to the importance of daily news.
The ideal candidate for the Lead Editorial Producer will be required to shepherd copy through the editing and production process and to work with reporters to produce sparkling copy. This position will report to the city editor and will generally work Monday through Friday, with hours from 1:30 p.m. until 10 p.m., or until the print pages are ready to go to press. As needed, the producer will work 10:30 until 8 p.m. one day a week.
This person will:
- Serve as central communicator between reporters, editors and design.
- Center to produce daily print and digital pages.
- Edit stories for print and digital products.
- Monitor workflow between news staff and design center.
- Proof pages and content.
- Coach reporters to optimize stories for print and digital storytelling.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
